Arapahoe Featured
at Colorado History Museum

by Lisa Portlock

A new exhibit at the Colorado History Museum features Arapahoe high school and our relationship with the Arapaho people. The exhibit, that opened Jan. 19, is called Tribal Paths and honors the Colorado American Indians.

The 4000 sq. ft. exhibit displays artifacts, diagrams, interactive pieces and photography. As you enter you trace the path of the Native Americans.

Arapahoe is displayed in a large glass case and in the center is a letter jacket and on the side an Arapahoe football helmet. A plaque on the side explains how we got into the relationship with the Arapaho people.

Also on display are schools that are not honoring the Native Americans like Arapahoe.

In an internet area, visitors can read the proclamation we have made with the tribe. Staff at Arapahoe is going to make a link from the museum to our school website and another link to show our relationship with the Arapaho people.

The display will be open for about five years. The museum is located in 1300 Broadway and admission is $7 for adults, $6 for students and seniors, $5 for kids six to twelve and free for children five and under.
